Bow Hunter Safety Course @ the BLFGA

This course covers archery basics, crossbow safety, bowhunter responsibility, and ethical bowhunting practices. Upon completion of the course and scoring 80% or higher on the final exam, you will earn your Bowhunter Education Certificate. This certificate does not expire and is required to purchase a NYS Bowhunting Privilege.
Class length is approximately 6 hours with breaks. All students must bring the completed homework to this course. If homework is not completed, you will not be permitted to participate. You can download the manual and homework online using the link below. If you prefer to work from a hard copy of the manual, one can be mailed to you by emailing hunter@dec.ny.gov and include your name, mailing address, and type of in-person course.
All class equipment will be provided for you, unless course information states otherwise.
Students are encouraged to bring:
- Personal snacks and drinks.
- Appropriate clothing for the weather and outdoor conditions, including proper footwear.
- Pen/Pencil, sunscreen and bug spray (season dependent)
Parents or guardians who wish to attend for observation should notify the instructor that you will be auditing the class.
NOTE All courses require the completion of homework prior to attending the course. If you do not complete the homework you cannot complete the course. Manuals with homework sheet will be available at the club in a clear tote by the front door or on line. If you do the online class use the free choice option.
IMPORTANT MINIMUM AGE FOR COURSE: 11 YEARS (Minimum age for a license is 12 years).
